Introducing Ami Robertson

I am particularly happy today as I am introducing to you one of our newest members, lovely Ami Robertson. Ami is a London based wedding photographer originally from Devon with over 3 years of experience. A bit of a workaholic, loves to travel and has an addiction for vintage cameras; can't get any better than this! Get to know Ami a little bit better by reading this fantastic interview.

{SL} Hi Ami, could you firstly tell our readers a little bit about yourself?

I am Ami Robertson a London based photographer originally from Devon! I fell into photography purely through passion and accident when I was doing my ski seasons and I have never looked back. I am a bit of a workaholic but that is because I am passionate about what I do. I love to travel and as well as weddings, travel photography is also something I love, with trips planned to Norway, Barcelona and Nepal for 2012!

In my down time I am bit of a book worm and have a slight addiction to hunting for vintage cameras in the London charity shops, my collection is borderline excessive!

{SL} Briefly, describe a typical day in Ami Robertson's life.

I don't have a typical day! Which is what I love about my life and my job. Variety is the spice of life and all that.

{SL} When and why did you become excited about photography?

I became excited about photography after my stepmum gave me my first camera a few years back. It came with me on my last ski season and I loved the result of taking a picture, in fact I started to do less snowboarding and more photographing. When I came back to England people started asking me to do family portraits and then weddings. I also work with a couple of bands and love any opportunity to have my camera in hand!

{SL} What makes your job as a wedding photographer fantastic? Why do you love it so much?

The thing I love the most about weddings is how happy and exciting they are! I work very closely with the couple from start to finish because not only is getting to know them important, its also amazing. I have wound up going on the hen parties before and made some really lovely friends. I am so lucky to have such a rewarding job.

{SL} How would you describe your photography style?

My style is a mixture really, from contemporary to vintage. However I have to say my favourite style is natural/reportage, I love the candid photos with natural expression.

{SL} What has been your best memory since working as a wedding photographer?

Wow there are just to many to mention! Every wedding is so different and offers something new every time.

{SL} Where is your favourite shooting location and why?

I really enjoyed a wedding I did at Cambridge Cottage in Kew Gardens last year. The venue is stunning and the light is absolutely spot on because of these fantastic big windows!

{SL} Any advice to couples when they start their wedding photographer search?

I would say really get to know your photographer because you will be spending a lot of time with them on the day and if you don't get along or feel comfortable then the pictures won't be what you want them to be. Any good photographer will take the time to make sure that happens! Also be clear about what you want and don't be afraid of doing that, I take no offence to a client telling me that they want me to be invisible on the day of their wedding because they don't want a camera in their face the whole time. I would also highly recommend any photographer who offers a pre-wedding shoot as part of their package. I do one with all of my clients as it gives me the opportunity to get to know what they are like in front of the camera as some people are more photogenic than others and there isn't enough time on the big day to discover those things and work through them.
