Theme of the week: Vintage

Vintage continues to be a very popular choice for many brides-to-be. Styles of yesteryear offer a timeless elegance that some modern day weddings find difficult to beat. Vintage is normally associated with the 1920s, 30s and 40s. If you love the swinging twenties, Introduce feathers in your flower bouquets; have your stylist create 20s inspired hair styles; drape strings of pearls over silver candelabras; If you prefer a more subtle approach, pick out an element, such as a certain colour or detail, and use throughout your wedding theme.

For instance, if you love lace, you could have hand-tied flower bouquets with antique lace wrapped elegantly around the stems; lace added to your wedding cake or lace in your wedding dress. Think about a vintage colour palette: Muted mocha brown, dusty pink, sage green, antique gold and soft cream.

Our top five vintage wedding ideas:

  1. Use vintage accessories for your wedding table plan. Visit antique shops and collect music papers and old postcards to create your wedding table plan. Littering the tables with old fashioned postcards will make the vintage feel come alive
  2. Have a wildflower bouquet. Cornflowers, poppies and sunflowers give a real splash of colour. Tie them up with lace ribbons and they will look even more fantastic, especially when held by a bohemian vintage bride.
  3. Get the music right. If you’re having a vintage wedding leave your iPod at home and hire a band. Think Frank Sinatra.
  4. Choose timeless wedding photography. Vintage processing of images may be popular but you should look for a photographer who’ll create images that won’t date.
  5. Vintage inspired weddings are all about crafts and DIY. Get the girls together or have fun with your hubby to be creating gorgeous invites, bunting and place settings.
